Functional Fluidics is  excited to share that Bert Bruce is joining our team as Senior Advisor, helping guide our next chapter of scientific expansion and strategic growth.

Bert is a deeply respected executive in hematology and rare disease, bringing more than 35 years of commercial, strategic, and portfolio leadership. During his tenure as U.S. President of Rare Disease at Pfizer, he helped steer the expansion of one of the industry’s most innovative hematology portfolios,  including the acquisition of Global Blood Therapeutics, while keeping patient-centered thinking at the core of every major decision. His ability to connect complex science, clinical need, and real-world impact is unmatched.

At Functional Fluidics, Bert will work closely with our leadership team as we broaden the reach and application of Red Blood Cell Functionomics™. We’ve made significant progress demonstrating how RBC functional biomarkers can deepen biological understanding, sharpen clinical decision-making, and improve trust and transparency in therapeutic evaluation. Bert’s experience will help us accelerate that work, strengthening our collaborations with biopharma partners, sharpening our commercial positioning, and supporting the expansion of our platforms into precision medicine, emerging hematology innovations, and broader domains of human performance and population health.

What stands out most is Bert’s belief in the importance of red blood cell health,  a concept that resonates universally, yet is only now becoming measurable and clinically actionable.

“What excites me most about Functional Fluidics is how they’ve taken something everyone intuitively understands,  the importance of healthy red blood cells, and built the scientific and operational capabilities to turn that intuition into real clinical value,” said Bert Bruce, Senior Advisor. The ability to quantify red blood cell function has the potential to transform how patients are evaluated, how therapies are developed, and how providers make decisions. I’m inspired by the clarity of the mission and the pace of the science, and I’m energized to help accelerate the impact Functional Fluidics can have for patients and the clinicians who care for them.

Bert’s leadership and perspective align deeply with our mission: ensuring that Red Blood Cell Functionomics™ becomes an essential dimension of human health and therapeutic innovation. His experience building trust in complex therapeutic areas will help us scale responsibly and accelerate the value we deliver to patients, providers, and our biopharma partners.About Functional Fluidics

Founded in 2014, Functional Fluidics is a global health technology company specializing in red blood cell health, that leverages healthcare data and technologies to accelerate the development of life-changing therapies, support clinical trials, and bridge the gap between clinical research and patient care. Functional Fluidics is also the innovator behind Red Blood Cell Functionomics™, a comprehensive framework that makes red blood cell health measurable and clinically actionable. The company has locations in North America and Sub-Saharan Africa and partners with healthcare providers, researchers, and pharmaceutical organizations globally.About Red Blood Cell Functionomics™

Red Blood Cell Functionomics™ is the scientific foundation that makes red blood cell health measurable. It moves beyond traditional static lab values to assess how red blood cells actually behave under the physical and biochemical stresses they experience in the body. By capturing characteristics such as deformability, membrane stability, oxygen-dependent mechanical response, adhesion, and overall microvascular flow behavior, Functionomics™ provides a multidimensional view of RBC performance that reflects real clinical physiology.

This framework offers a clearer understanding of disease biology and therapeutic response, enabling more sensitive pharmacodynamic assessment, better differentiation among treatment modalities, and more informed patient evaluation. At its core, Red Blood Cell Functionomics™ transforms a universally understood concept, the importance of healthy red blood cells, into a rigorous, clinically actionable measurement system that supports innovation across hematology, precision medicine, and broader human health.
