The Oxygenscan measures the relative oxygen pressure at the critical point where the red blood cells (RBCs) start to become rigid and crescent.  This “Point of Sickling” (PoS) quantitatively and reproducibly describes the defined loss of deformability of HbS-containing RBCs.
